heritage-intro

Founded in 1897 by Giuseppe Marini, the Marini company has its roots in the tradition of stone craftsmanship. Today, based in Gré, in the municipalities of Castro and Solto Collina on the western shore of Lake Iseo, the company is led by the founder's great-grandchildren, Giulio and Giancarlo. From the very beginning, Marini worked with materials extracted from its own quarries, starting with the Pietra di Sarnico in Paratico (BS) and later the Pietra Simona in Valle Camonica. In 1913, the family settled in Castro, where the extraction of Ceppo di Gré began, a stone that would become the company's hallmark.

In the early years, quarry work was extremely arduous: stones were broken with black powder, squared by hand, and transported by lake to the sawmills. In the 1920s, Giuseppe Marini founded the first industrial facility equipped with a sawmill to process blocks into slabs. This development enabled the creation of significant works of the time, such as the Monumental Cemetery of Mantua, the Court Building, and the Bank of Italy headquarters in Bergamo, along with numerous projects in northern Italy.

After Giuseppe's death in 1930, the company was taken over by his son Annibale, who expanded operations by acquiring full ownership of the quarries and establishing the company as the sole operator in Gré. Even during World War II, production continued, overcoming great challenges. In the 1950s, the modern factory was built, which now houses the offices, alongside the reconstruction of the nearby hotel. With the entry of Giuseppe and Giovanni, Annibale's sons, the company began exporting materials to Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and the Netherlands while simultaneously strengthening its presence in the domestic market.

After Annibale's death in 1967, Giovanni continued the business with his son Giulio. Despite Giovanni's untimely passing in 1995, Giulio and his brother Giancarlo have carried forward the family tradition with passion, dedication, and innovation. Over the years, the company has expanded its client base and contributed to major projects, staying true to its values of quality and authenticity.

Awards and innovations

The Ceppo di Gré, the company's emblem, has received the "Original Stone of Bergamo" certification established by the Bergamo Chamber of Commerce to protect the quality of local stone products. Marini has also received prestigious international recognition, such as the First Prize at the "Marble Architectural Awards" in Carrara in 1994. In 2008, the Aggloceppo® brand was registered, an innovation combining tradition and sustainability, reaffirming the company's position as a leader in the natural stone sector.
